The Art Residency Program

  • DAC on Dorp offers a free residency program for South African artists. Artists can apply by submitting a proposal, which is then reviewed through a rigorous selection process by our committee to ensure the most deserving applicants are chosen. We believe that resources, support, and funding are essential for emerging South African artists to gain exposure. This is why we are committed to providing this free residency opportunity. Stay tuned for updates on application dates!

  • Our Winter Residency Program 2024 offers opportunities for emerging artists based in South Africa, with space for up to TWO artists per session. Applications for the residency are open from 01 July to 21 August 2024. The dates for the second residency will be announced in early January 2025.

Since our launch in November 2023, we have become a hub for multidisciplinary art and community engagement. Our mission is to ignite dialogue, foster meaningful conversations, and inspire community transformation through the unifying power of art.

  • Immerse yourself in a transformative seven-week residency in Cape Town's historic Bo-Kaap neighborhood. Designed to nurture your creative, intellectual, personal, and communal growth, this program offers a rare opportunity to engage deeply with the Bo-Kaap community and draw inspiration from Cape Town's vibrant cultural tapestry.

The residency dates have been updated as follows: Residency Period: 01 July – 17 August 2024. Application Deadline: 10 June 2024

  • We welcome artists from all visual art disciplines.

    1. Artists will have access to the studio/workspace and accommodation on the premises.

    2. Artists are required to provide their own materials. DAC on Dorp can offer recommendations for service providers if needed.

    3. This residency is offered to artists free of charge; however, no stipend or financial compensation will be provided.

    4. As part of the residency, artists agree to participate in public engagement activities as requested. These may include artist talks, workshops, exhibitions, or other community events.

    1. Printing Rights
DAC on Dorp reserves the right to obtain the printing rights for one artwork created by the artist during their residency. This artwork will be included in the annual Friends of DAC on Dorp edition, a collection of art prints from all artists who have participated in our funded residency program. The edition is distributed nationally and internationally, serving as a crucial platform for sustaining this self-funded initiative. Additionally, this exposure offers artists opportunities to engage with wider artistic networks.

DAC on Dorp will retain a 10% commission on:

      • Any artwork sold during the exhibition.

      • Any artwork created during the residency that is sold prior to the conclusion of the residency and exhibition period.

The artist must submit their catalogue no later than one week before the conclusion of the residency and final exhibition.
